They have an app for that

Filed under: Comedy,News,Treats,TV — posted by Breakup Girl @ 9:52 am

One thing singles tell me a lot is that they enjoy singlehood, they really do — and that they would enjoy it even more if they knew, for super-sure guarantee, that it also had an end date. Well, one new movie — starring BG imaginary BFF Emma Caulfield as a gal named Oona — uses machine-as-metaphor to make that fantasy real. It’s TiMER, in which women and men may choose to be implanted with a device that counts down the days, minutes, and seconds until they meet The One. But Oona’s timer is blank. So what will she do? Like the rest of us in the real world, will she have to just “just know”?

From the trailer, TiMER looks like a sweet sci-fi wrapped in a chick-flick tied with a careful-what-you-wish-for bow. And since what we’ve been wishing for is the return of Emma Caulfield, we’re not gonna be careful at all. (Now if we could just know for sure when — or if — it’ll go into wide release.)

He heard the music

Filed under: Celebrities,News — posted by Breakup Girl @ 12:25 pm

May all karaoke bars observe a moment of silence for actor Andy Hallett, who played BG’s favorite character on Angel, which is saying a lot.

Of course, we prefer to think he’s gone back to Pylea to open a FANTASTIC club.

“They have no music there. It doesn’t exist. Do you know what that’s like? No lullabies, no love songs. All my life I thought I was crazy, that I had ghosts in my head or something… simply because I could hear music. Of course, I didn’t know it was music. All I knew was that it was something… beautiful and… and painful and right. And I was the only one who could hear it. Then I wound up here and heard Aretha for the first time.” — Lorne the Host

The church of Buffy

Filed under: Treats,TV — posted by Breakup Girl @ 1:12 pm

Headline of the week from The Daily Mail: “50,000 women abandoning church every year as Buffy the Vampire Slayer turns them on to witchcraft.”

Dr. Kristin Aune of the University of Derby, “said many young women are put off going to church because they link it with traditional values,” the Mail reported, adding, “She also said television icons such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who promote female empowerment, discourage women from attending services.”

Hmm! Reminds me of that classic from BG anti-crush Pat Robertson: “Feminism encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”

Well. Who says we can’t have it all?
