Dear Breakup Girl,

I was going out with this one guy, Alex, and I found out he was cheating on me so I broke up with him over the phone. I was using three-way calling with his friend. After I broke up with him he hung up so it was just me and his friend; well, his friend asked me out and I said yes.

When Alex found out he got jealous, and asked me if I broke up with him just so I could go out with Gary. Did I do the right thing?

Dear Michelle,

Well, your ex lost his right to be mad about this back when he cheated on you. That said, just for the sake of decorum -- not to mention a little mental distance -- you'd generally want to wait a bit before dating Boy #2. Like, maybe one week, or one day at least. More than one phone call, in any case. And next time let's hope third parties don't intervene at all.
