Spanx for the memories

Filed under: Treats — posted by Breakup Girl @ 8:30 am

From Broadsheet: “Here is what I want to know: If you’re a guy, what do you do when the girl you are tangling tongues with turns out to be wearing Spanx? Is it embarrassing for you, too? Do you even care? Do you try to ignore it, disappear the image, just like the girl you are with is trying to disappear her flaws, so that you can store that moment in your spank bank without the messy realities of the moment, of her body, of this otherwise lovely little tussle?”

  1. As I recall, there was a scene like that in Bridget Jones: the movie. Hugh Grant was amused and yet carried on…so I guess that’s the ideal reaction!

  2. I am a guy and this has happened to me twice, with girls I was dating. In both instances, although the girls were initially a little embarrassed, everything was very quickly very cool. I wasn’t embarrassed or disappointed. This may be hard for girls to believe, but guys know about Spanx. We are not blind or completely oblivious. At this point we even know that most girls dressed up for a date are wearing them. Personally, I like them. What I mean is that I like going out with a girl who likes to get dressed up to make an attractive impression and I like it if she wears things that will make her look her best, just as I appreciate it if she does her hair nicely or wears attractive shoes. Even guys can perceive that girls look great in Spanx with dresses and skirts, and contrary to what I think most women think, guys don’t really like it if a woman is all dressed up and, well, jiggling. Girls, wear your Spanx and don’t be embarrassed. They make you look nice, there’s something kind of sexy about any form-fitting clothing, and if you get to the point where you are making out and thinking about removing an article of clothing no guy, trust me, no guy is going to be turned off by anything that is on its way off of you.

  3. [...] The other nonverbal clue is what body-language professionals call “ventral fronting” — when your mate approaches you, does he or she face you head-on with no obstruction to the belly area? This is a subconscious behavior that signifies trust and affection. (Think “happy puppy getting her belly rubbed.”) Couples whose trust and affection are waning tend to face their abdominal regions away from each other (“ventral denial”), or hide behind crossed arms, purses, the Sunday Times, etc. Or Spanx?
